Banana silk yarn is made from the very long fibres of the banana leaf, producing a high sheen, soft and yet very strong silky fibre. Banana leaves must be harvested as part of the regular banana fruit production, making banana fibre abundant in supply.
This yarn is made in Nepal and is a fair trade product, spun by artisans.
The yarn is highly textured and unevenly spun, making it great for all kinds of loom weaving, but can also be knitted and crocheted. There can also be some variance in the lustre and sheen from ball to ball.
As a handspun product sold on weight, lengths vary considerably. 200g yields approximately 80-120m
