String Harvest has moved to New South Wales!
Ngayi, my name is Tegan Murdock and I was raised in the small country town of Coomealla (25kms north west of Mildura on the NSW and Victorian border of Australia) on the Namatjira Mission.
I am a proud member of the Barkindtji tribe originating from Coomealla, Lake Victoria and the Mungo regions from my mothers ancestors. While also belonging to the Yorta Yorta and Dhudaroah tribes originating from the Shepparton area from my father’s ancestors.
My beautiful Mum, Margaret, taught me to weave several years ago. I started weaving earrings and then kept creating new pieces as the inspiration came to me. I started a business called Ngumpie Weaving and you may have seen some of my works on platforms such as Vogue, Women's Weekly, Channel 10, SBS, NITV, Sydney Weekender and TV Week Logie Awards. Ngumpie in Barkindtji means ‘Beautiful’ - which is what my Nanna Shirl used to call me when I was younger.
To weave my story together, I knew String Harvest would be a 'ngumpie' extension of what I have started - the perfect platform for me to continue to share my passion by supplying affordable weaving supplies worldwide.
These past few months have been filled with laughter and tears and everything great in between! I am so proud to continue the legacy of the founder, Cass and am eager to unveil new offerings for the upcoming season that will be available in-store and online.
I won't reveal too much, but rest assured, we're as excited as you are about these additions. After working on some big enhancements, I'm delighted to share with you some promotions and new stock with you soon. So stay tuned!
