Madagascan Natural Raffia: 1kg Regular grade
*Express Post Orders over 1kg may be subject to additional postage charges at our discretion
Content: Untreated natural raffia palm (raffia bast)
Origin: Madagascar
Fibre length: approximately 80-120cm but often longer
Feel: Good quality (but not premium) strands of average length. As the strands are shorter than superior grade, there tend to be 10-20% more strands per kilo.
Best for: everything. A great all rounder, but discerning weavers might prefer this grade as core rather than for stitching. Shorter than florist grade or superior, but with a good mix of thicker and thinner strands. Will suit most basket weavers and fibre artists.
Grade/classification: Courant Ordinaire
Origin: Besalampy, Madagascar
Best value, for those who are looking for the most affordable. Great for core and wrapping but less suited to projects where fibre thickness and strength is of utmost importance. If basket weaving with coloured stitching - this is best value to use as core filler and general purpose craft projects.
Great for using in weaving workshops
Harvested in 2021
About natural raffia:
Natural, undyed Madagascan raffia, sustainably grown and harvested.
Raffia is made from the stripped fibres of the palmyra palm leaf, native to Madagascar. The mature leaves typically grow up to 10 metres long and 2 to 4 metres wide. The leaves are shredded along their width to get a beautifully long and strong fibre suitable for many types of craft and textile.
Hundreds of metres, depending on how you use it, and will make lots and lots of baskets, bags, etc. Suitable for dyeing (please use dyes responsibly).
